The Universal Centre of Truth for Better Living (UC Truth) will celebrate the 50th anniversary of its parent organisation the Universal Foundation for Better Living (UFBL) on Sunday, June 9 with the University Singers at 4:00 p.m. at the Philip Sherlock Center for the Creative Arts, University of the West Indies, Mona. UC Truth, a member ministry of the UFBL, celebrates Founder’s Day honouring its rich past and bold founder, the Rev. Dr. Johnnie Colemon.

The Sunday evening of celebration with the University Singers, on June 9th, will bring together joyful praise and thanksgiving, as UC Truth honours the positive and impactful contribution of several Jamaicans to UFBL’s rich history.  In June 1974, in Chicago, Illinois, Rev. Colemon established UFBL, an international organization of affiliated New Thought Christian churches and study groups that embrace a metaphysical interpretation of the Bible with emphasis on God’s will that all persons be ‘victorious in’ rather than ‘victims of’ their circumstances. UFBL is represented throughout the United States, Canada, the Caribbean, and South America.

Rev. Colemon, referred to as the “First Lady of the New Thought Christian Community”, also founded Christ Universal Temple in Chicago in 1956, as a progressive, New Thought Christian church and served as its Senior Minister for 50 years. She also founded a state-of-the-art elementary school, and seminary and teaching institute, that serve as the Alma Mater for New Thought Leaders and other Thought Leaders world-wide. Rev. Dr. Sheila McKeithen who serves as the Senior Minister of the Jamaica church, is the current UFBL President.

Universal Centre of Truth is a vibrant and welcoming Bible-based New Thought Christian Church in Kingston, Jamaica.  UC Truth espouses the abundant living, inclusive and love-based message of Jesus the Christ in practical ways that empower all people desiring to consciously connect with the God within them and live from their God-given potential.

The local church led by Rev. Sheila McKeithen was founded in September 1994 by Avis Hylton, Cynthia Crooks, Rose Dundas, Norma Eaton, Eileen Henry, Lisa Holt-Lawrence, Mary Tumpkin, Peter Hylton, Roy Hylton, Beverly Manley, Angela Melhado, Hyacinth Sherlock, and Hazel Sterling. UC Truth meets on Sundays at 10:30 am, 15 Collins Green Avenue, Kingston 5.
