Wisdom for the Journey

From The Holy Bible:

“Tell those rich in this world’s wealth to quit being so full of themselves and so obsessed with money, which is here today and gone tomorrow. Tell them to go after God, who piles on all the riches we could ever manage—to do good, to be rich in helping others, to be extravagantly generous. If they do that, they’ll build a treasury that will last, gaining life that is truly life.”

I Timothy 6:17 (The Message Bible)

From You’ve Got to Be Hungry, by Les Brown:

“Often in life, people are expecting to receive what they are not willing to give…My son was fourteen…[when] I placed six figures worth of cash in his hands…[he later] handed me a handwritten note that read: ‘Daddy I am so proud of you. You’re doing a good job. Thank you for the presents, but what I want is your presence.”

Lesson Sermon

Who’s Hungry to Build Wealth and Invest Wisely?

The Rev. Sheila R. McKeithen, J.D.

Introductory Remarks:

God’s inheritance to you is REAL. God’s intention is not that you simply acquire and consume your inheritance. God wants you to be hungry enough to multiply it and share it in ways that promote healthy relationships and leave a legacy that betters humanity as a whole.

Major Points of the Lesson:

1. All that you have or aspire to have comes from God.

2. Cultivating a hunger to be generous is often difficult for persons who live in SURVIVAL MODE, driven by fears of lack and limitation. On the other hand, persons who live in THRIVING MODE, strive to be generous. Remember the lad and widow in the Bible, who gave all they had?

3. Consider these two options: Be HUNGRY to be a Good Steward over the inheritance entrusted to you OR Be HUNGRY for material possessions that fade, flee, rust, decrease in value or become obsolete. Which do you choose?

Quote:

“No one has ever become poor by giving.” Anne Frank
