Genesis 13:14-16 (NRSVUE)
The Lord said to Abram, after Lot had separated from him, “Raise your eyes now, and look from the place where you are, northward and southward and eastward and westward, for all the land that you see I will give to you and to your offspring forever. I will make your offspring like the dust of the earth, so that if one can count the dust of the earth, your offspring also can be counted.”
Introductory Remarks:
Johnnie Colemon was presented with odds that seemed unbeatable in 1952 when her medical team advised her that she had less than six (6) months to live.
Looking away from the medical prognosis, she looked toward God’s Truth by entering a course of study at Unity Farm in Missouri, USA. There, she learned how to live as a child of God, ever victorious, rather than as a victim of her circumstances. In doing so, she left an imprint on the souls of many who now live happier, healthier, and more prosperous lives.
Major Points of the Lesson:
- We can look at and therefore open our mind to whatever we choose. Whatever we consistently open our mind to becomes our reality. The Law is: Like Attracts Like.
- Johnnie opened her mind to:
- a. Her identity as a spiritual being;
- b. Communicating messages of ‘wholeness’ and ‘healing’ throughout her being;
- c. Lifting her thoughts above appearances of tradition, disease, and heredity.
- Johnnie beat the odds by looking past hurtful and discriminatory actions and chose to ‘forgive quickly.’
