Wake Up and Dream

Scripture Reading

Genesis 13:14-17 (NRSVUE)

The Lord said to Abram, after Lot had separated from him, ‘Raise your eyes now, and look from the place where you are, northward and southward and eastward and westward, for all the land that you see I will give to you and to your offspring forever. I will make your offspring like the dust of the earth, so that if one can count the dust of the earth, your offspring also can be counted. Rise up, walk through the length and the breadth of the land, for I will give it to you.’

Introductory Remarks:

God has not left us helpless to fend for ourselves. Instead, God’s plan of absolute good for everyone, everywhere, is waiting for us to catch, shape, and keep. There is a God-dream for you, within you. The Bible and modern history are filled with people who allowed God to dream bigger dreams through them than they could dream for themselves. These dreams are not just stories of the past; they are living reminders that Omnipresent God still plants dreams in our hearts today. Feeling stuck, slow, and ‘unthriving?’ Then wake up and dream with God. Perceive God’s dream for you. Pursue the dream with action, and persevere in faith until your God-dream becomes your everyday reality.

Major Points of the Lesson:

  1. Perceive the Dream
God is always speaking. Stay in God’s presence so you can connect with the God-dream for your life.
  2. Pursue the Dream
Vision requires action. Surround yourself with people, prophecies, and patterns that bring the dream into reality.
  3. Persevere in the Dream
Hold to the dream with Abrahim-like faith, Naaman’s obedience, Elijah’s persistence, and the Canaanite woman’s determination. God’s dream will not fail.

Quote:
“If you do not have a dream that you are conscious of, get yourself a dream. Dream the impossible and watch your Father make it possible for you. Dream big!”

ASSIGNMENT: A 7-minute, 7-Day Dream Practice

  1. Perceive – Pray up the Dream
Each day, spend 7 minutes in prayer. Meditate on the affirmation “I accept God’s dream for my _____ life. Thank You, God.” Then, sit in silent communion.
  2. Pursue – Write the Dream
Journal any insights, impressions, or directions you receive; make it plain, like Habakkuk was instructed.

Persevere – Walk the Dream
On day 7, review your notes and create one simple action step. If clarity hasn’t come yet, trust God’s timing and repeat the cycle. “It will surely come.” (Habakkuk 2)
