Built to Speak the Word

Scripture Reading

Mark 4:35–41

That day, at evening, Jesus said to his followers, “Come with me across the lake.” So they left the crowd behind and went with Jesus in the boat he was already in. There were also other boats that went with them.

A very strong wind came up on the lake. The waves were coming over the sides and into the boat, and it was almost full of water. Jesus was inside the boat, sleeping with his head on a pillow. The followers went and woke him. They said, “Teacher, don’t you care about us? We are going to drown!”

Jesus stood up and gave a command to the wind and the water. He said, “Peace! Be still!” Then the wind stopped, and the lake became calm.

He said to his followers, “Why are you afraid? Do you still have no faith?”

They were very afraid and asked each other, “What kind of man is this? Even the wind and the water obey him!”

Introductory Remarks

Power is a spiritual quality or ability. When you know who you are as a spiritual being, you are able to access spiritual power for your good and the good of others.

Jesus spoke the word for peace and calm on the sea. His word benefitted him and those with whom he travelled.

Whenever we speak, things happen because our words are never empty.

Major Points of the Lesson

1. Speak from Your Spiritual Identity

  • Speak as Jesus did.
  • Remember: God’s Omnipresence, Omniscience, and Omnipotence are your nature, too.
  • You are more than flesh and bones, more than “only human.”

2. Stay Connected with Spiritual Consciousness

  • Know that nothing is impossible or too hard.
  • Ask yourself: “What kind of experience do I want?”
  • Think and speak of your desired experience and nothing else.
  • Remember: what you choose, chooses you.

Quote

“There is power in the spoken word; certain words turn on the cells…the organs…the tissues inside of you…This [teaching], if you work it, will work. It will heal your body. It will make your pocketbooks get fat with a whole lot of…dollar bills. It is the kind of [teaching] that will bring you peace of mind, harmony in your home and in your world…if you will just open your mouth and begin to speak the word.”
