Why Easter Matters

Scripture Reading

Luke 4:18-19 (NRSVUE)

“The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he has anointed me to bring good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim release to the captives and recovery of sight to the blind, to set free those who are oppressed, to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor.”

Introductory Remarks:

The Easter narrative reminds us that Jesus OVERCAME the temptations of the human consciousness, including death. It matters because the overcoming power, expressed at Easter and in Jesus’ life, is also available to each of us, through Christ.

Major Points of the Lesson:

  1. Jesus is the man. Christ is the spiritual principle that Jesus discovered and demonstrated. [Start with Self.]
  1. Jesus knew that the power to overcome the temptations of human consciousness was possible, through Christ, so he and his disciples set out to teach all who had an ear to hear. [Share with others.]
  1. Like Jesus, we are here for a bigger purpose than enjoying the fruit of the human experience. We are here for God.

Quote:

“Christ in you wants to explode as unlimited spiritual potential. Let it!”

ASSIGNMENT:

Meditate on the ‘Christ in YOU’. Call it forth to help you in every way. Affirm: I can do all things through Christ in me.
