Walk the Talk: Being Disciples in 2024

August 18, 2024

Scripture Reading

Go therefore and make disciples of all nations… teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, to the close of the age.”

Matthew 28:19-20 (RSV)

Introductory Remarks:

The Reverend Don Nedd was inspired with a Blueprint for Living Better Lives. That blueprint was adopted by the Universal Foundation for Better Living, Inc. (UFBL) Board of Directors in 1974 as its Statement of Faith.

Thus far, we have addressed Statements 1-8 of the blueprint:

We Believe that it is God’s Will that every individual on the face of this earth should live a healthy, happy, and prosperous life.

We Believe that such a life is within the reach of each one of us and the way to its attainment begins with the realization that the Kingdom of God is within waiting for us to bring it into expression.

We Believe that we can bring this Kingdom forth by practicing the universal spiritual principles, handed down through the ages and taught by our Way-Shower, Jesus Christ.

We Believe with Jesus that our experiences are the reflections of our beliefs and therefore the key to happy and successful living is right thinking followed by right action.

We Believe with Jesus that the basis for right thinking is LOVE- love of God and all that is good in others and ourselves.

We Believe that learning to listen to the whispering of the “still, small voice” within us will ensure that we are guided into right action.

We Believe that rather than devoting our primary efforts to providing for the needy of the world, the time has come to make available to all people everywhere a teaching that will enable them to provide for themselves by learning to release the divine potential within them.

We Believe that the Universal Foundation for Better Living is a vehicle for the spreading of such a teaching.

Today, we address Statement 9:

We Believe that a mighty new wind is blowing. People everywhere are hungry for practical techniques that will show them how to fulfill the good desires of their hearts. We in the U.F.B.L. believe that we have these techniques and we offer them to everyone without distinction, confident that with the help of the Holy Spirit, we can teach all who are willing to learn how to overcome whatever would keep them from their highest good.

Major Points for Your Consideration:

  1. The world faces new and unique challenges. Each experience carries a seed of opportunity to express Christ in new and dynamic ways. Look for it.
  1. As disciples of Christ, we are called to teach the Truth, not just with our words, but by walking, wearing and embodying the Truth all day, every day and in every way. This is how we overcome the world and inspire others to do the same.

Quote:

“The truth is liberating – but only when you have the courage to live it.”

David Schnarch

Assignment:

Are you guilty of being a one-day Christian? Which day(s) do you find most challenging to express your real Spiritual self? Monday? Payday? Funday? Workday?

Find it. Pray about it. Spend time meditating on your Christ nature. Ask, “What would Jesus Do?” Listen for the inspiration. Do it, then share your good news.
