Scripture Reading

“If any of you needs wisdom to know what you should do, you should ask God, and he will give it to you. God is generous to everyone and doesn’t find fault with them. When you ask for something, don’t have any doubts. A person who has doubts is like a wave that is blown by the wind and tossed by the sea. A person who has doubts shouldn’t expect to receive anything from the Lord. A person who has doubts is thinking about two different things at the same time and can’t make up his mind about anything.”

James 1:5-8 (GW)

Introductory Remarks:

The role that belief plays in our lives is no secret. From Adam and Eve, to Noah, to Moses and Joshua, to Kings, Queens, and Prophets, to Hannah, to the Woman with an Issue of Blood, to Lepers, Paraplegics and the Blind, to Rome’s Soldiers and to Jesus the Christ, amongst others, they all believed before they received.  The same is true of John Newton, the writer of the hymn, Amazing Grace. His beliefs transformed him from slave trader to Anglican Minister.

Today’s lesson is a reminder that when your mind is open to and rooted in God’s Instructions/Wisdom, your beliefs will transform you, your life and your affairs if you do not doubt.

Major Points of the Lesson:

1. Your beliefs are a manifestation of what you claim as TRUE. What you ‘lock in’ as True, ‘locks on’ to you as your Truth.

2. Every belief has its own demonstration. Doubts disrupt beliefs, creating a sense of instability. The demonstration chain is broken every time doubt is entertained.

3. Your beliefs are either working with you or working against you; blessing you or burdening you; prospering you or pouncing you; healing you or harming you. The bottom line is this: The nature of your beliefs contribute to the life you live.

4. Your spiritual gift of Power enables you to exert Mastery over every belief, to stand with authority and to express dominion over it. Therefore, you have the power to accept or deny any belief presented to you.

Quote:

“You will only live a better life, if you entertain ‘better’ beliefs about your life.”

Sheila R. McKeithen
