My Desires are Delightful

Scripture ReadingPsalm 1:1-3 (NRSVUE)

Happy are those who do not follow the advice of the wicked or take the path that sinners tread or sit in the seat of scoffers,
but their delight is in the law of the Lord, and on his law they meditate day and night.
They are like trees planted by streams of water, which yield their fruit in its season, and their leaves do not wither. In all that they do, they prosper.

Introductory Remarks:

We all have one true desire, and that is the desire to know God consciously.

Our desires are delightful and fulfilled to the extent that we understand that a desire is God’s urge or impulse that seeks expression through us.

Major Points of the Lesson:

  1. No matter what ‘label’ you place on your desire, it is really the desire to ‘know God as the wisdom of your intellect; the love of your heart; the life of your body; the harmony, peace, happiness of your relationships; the success and prosperity of your affairs.’ Charles Fillmore
  1. In faith, God’s desires in you  ‘come alive’ when you:
    1. Spend time in prayer, meditating on the God idea that forms the essence of your desire.
    2. Prepare your consciousness to receive the idea, in its fullness, through denial and affirmation.
    3. In faith, you move into action, accepting that the desire is already fulfilled.
  1. You must demonstrate your own good desires and not try to possess what belongs to another. To do otherwise is to stake an illegitimate claim, for which there is a spiritual penalty.

Quote:

“[A]ll the desires we have ever had, have now, or will have in the future are part of the one desire to truly know God, not merely to know about [God]”.

Charles Fillmore
