Love The Children

Scripture Reading

I John 4:19-21 (NRSVUE)

We love because [God] first loved us. Those who say, “I love God,” and hate a brother or sister are… [not telling the truth], for those who do not love a brother or sister, whom they have seen, cannot love God, whom they have not seen. The commandment we have from [God] is this: those who love God must love their brothers and sisters also.

Introductory Remarks

Throughout the ages we’ve heard stories, fables, and biblical narratives of persons who dishonour children. This occurs when the ego-self sits on the throne of our heart and believes it is in charge.
The narrative changes for better when the Divine Self or Christ Self replaces the ego-self and exerts Its authority in heaven and earth. As a result, every ruling is just and compassionate, not only for children, but for us all.

Major Points of the Lesson

  • When we deepen our love for God, and the ways of God, through prayer, meditation, and silence, we become available for deeper expressions of love to flow within us and between us. ‘Perfect love casts out fear.’ I John 4:18.

  • In the story of Snow White, each character represents an aspect of love or an unhealthy longing for love:

    • The Queen – feelings of uncertainty, lack, and fear;

    • The Princess – pure love that transforms and trusts;

    • The Woodsman – thought of destruction that comes in touch with pure love and is transformed;

    • The 7 Dwarfs – God’s provision in many forms;

    • The Prince – love that sees beyond circumstances and liberates us in spite of those circumstances.

Quote

“Love is God in manifestation, and the strongest magnetic force in the universe. Pure, unselfish love draws to itself its own; it does not need to seek or demand.”

Assignment

Let’s model love to others, including the children, as proof that God’s love is sufficient to meet life’s demands.
