Jesus Crossed It Out & Re-Affirmed His Connection

Introductory Remarks:

Good Friday is a reminder of the horrible act of Jesus’ Crucifixion at Golgotha. Today, let us ‘crucify’ or ‘cross out’  every false belief and destructive emotion that keeps us living in bondage to the flesh and things of the flesh.

Today, we look at 4 human tendencies that promote suffering in our lives and in the world. Let’s crucify them so that we may RISE like Jesus and go free.

  1. I Cross Out Pseudo-Power

You would have no power over me if it were not given to you from above.”  John 19:11 (NIV)

  1. I Cross Out Injustice

“And will not God bring about justice for [those…] who cry out to him day and night? Will he keep putting them off?

I tell you, he will see that they get justice, and quickly…” Luke 18:7-8 (NIV)

  1. I Cross Out Greed

“And he said to them, “Take care! Be on your guard against all kinds of greed, for one’s life does not consist in the abundance of possessions.” Luke 12:15 (NRSVUE)

  1. I Cross Out Sickness

“Then Jesus summoned his twelve disciples and gave them authority over unclean spirits, to cast them out, and to cure every disease and every sickness.” Matthew 10:1 (NRSVUE)

Affirmation

I retreat into the silence of my soul. There, I await the Lord’s instructions. In faith, I rest, knowing that the God of my Salvation is forever taking good care of me and others. Amen.
