Scripture Reading
Matthew 7:24-27 (NIV)
“Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock. But everyone who hears these words of mine and does not put them into practice is like a foolish man who built his house on sand. The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell with a great crash.”
Definition of Wisdom:
“Intuitive knowing; spiritual intuition; the voice of God within as the source of our understanding; mental action based on the Christ Truth within.” — Charles Fillmore, Revealing Word
Introductory Remarks:
Every structure has its foundation. When the foundation is stable, it firmly holds the structure in place. Life’s structures (health, wealth, peace of mind, relationships, etc.) are no exception. They, too, must be built on a strong foundation to endure every season of life.
Major Points of the Lesson:
- Wisdom is critical to success in life.
- It is your God-given ability to judge, discriminate, and to perceive and follow intuitive guidance.
- It transcends facts because it originates from God’s Truth, not factual appearances.
- To Thrive, we must build wisely. Wise builders begin with God, not facts, popular opinion, or feelings. They follow the 3 ‘B’s of Wisdom:
- Be Honest/Truthful.
- Be Obedient.
- Be Grateful.
“The beginning of wisdom is this: Get wisdom, and whatever you get, get insight. Prize her highly, and she will exalt you; she will honor you if you embrace her.”
— Proverbs 4:7-8 (ESV)
Assignment:
Using this week’s lesson as your guide, assess the strength of the foundation upon which your season of Thriving rests. Is it built on a rock or sand? What opportunity does this present to you?
