Scripture Reading
“Point your kids in the right direction—when they’re old they won’t be lost.”
Proverbs 22:6 (MSG)
Introductory Remarks:
Fathers and father figures throughout the ages have prayed as they, too, crave a better life for themselves and for their children.
Today, we review three key prayerful attitudes that fathers and father figures can use to support their children to become the best versions of themselves and make positive contributions in the world.
Major Points:
- Pray that they will understand who they are. Your true identity is not something you understand intellectually or through the 5 senses. If you are to get to the kernel of truth you have to bypass your default thinking and spend time in consistent, quiet and contemplative thinking, through prayer.
- Pray they will understand that everything happens in Divine Order. “Study to show thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.” 2 Timothy 2:15 (KJ21)
- Pray they will be grateful. Words of praise, gratitude, or thanksgiving expand, set free, and in every way, radiate energy. Words of failure congest energy and make us nervous and our bones brittle. (Charles Filmore – Teach Us to Pray)
Assignment:
Write 2 contributions your father or a father figure made to your life. Give thanks for those contributions and for him.
