The Seven Last Words

Introduction:

The Gospels viewed collectively, indicate that Jesus spoke 7 times after being nailed to the cross. If we view these words as attitudes that Jesus adopted in meeting this great challenge, we find that these same attitudes can be adopted by us as we crucify, cross out or release, the limitations of human nature in preparation for the Easter Resurrection
experience.

The First Word:

“Father, forgive them; for they do not know what they are doing.”
Luke 23:34 (NRSV)

Reflection on the 1st Word & Silence

Musical Interlude
“I Forgive Me”
I forgive me. I forgive me.
Everything that I’ve been holding on to,

I let go.
I surrender. I surrender.
I’m, ready for my change.

I forgive you…
I forgive them…

The Second Word:

“Truly, I tell you, today you will be with me in paradise.”
Luke 23:43 (NRSV)

Musical Interlude
“Holy Ground” Medley
This is holy ground
We’re standing on holy ground
For the Lord is present
And where God is, is holy
This is holy ground
We’re standing on holy ground
For the Lord is present
And where God is, is holy
We are standing on holy ground
And I know that there are angels all around
Let us praise Spirit now
For we are standing in God’s presence
On holy ground.
