Unblock Your Flow
Scripture Reading
Mark 9:14-29 (NRSVUE)
When they came to the disciples, they saw a great crowd around them and some scribes arguing with them. When the whole crowd saw him, they were immediately overcome with awe, and they ran forward to greet him. He asked them, “What are you arguing about with them?” Someone from the crowd answered him, “Teacher, I brought you my son; he has a spirit that makes him unable to speak, and whenever it seizes him, it dashes him down, and he foams and grinds his teeth and becomes rigid, and I asked your disciples to cast it out, but they could not do so.” He answered them, “You faithless generation, how much longer must I be with you? How much longer must I put up with you? Bring him to me.” And they brought the boy to him. When the spirit saw him, immediately it convulsed the boy, and he fell on the ground and rolled about, foaming at the mouth. Jesus asked the father, “How long has this been happening to him?” And he said, “From childhood. It has often cast him into the fire and into the water, to destroy him; but if you are able to do anything, help us! Have compassion on us!” Jesus said to him, “If you are able! All things can be done for the one who believes.” Immediately the father of the child cried out, “I believe; help my unbelief!” When Jesus saw that a crowd came running together, he rebuked the unclean spirit, saying to it, “You spirit that keeps this boy from speaking and hearing, I command you, come out of him, and never enter him again!” After crying out and convulsing him terribly, it came out, and the boy was like a corpse, so that most of them said, “He is dead.” But Jesus took him by the hand and lifted him up, and he was able to stand. When he had entered the house, his disciples asked him privately, “Why could we not cast it out?” He said to them, “This kind can come out only through prayer.”
Introductory Remarks:
Jesus is still calling us to believe — not just with our words, but at the level of consciousness. Many of us say we believe God wants us to live fully, freely, prosperously, and abundantly. Yet our lives sometimes reveal hidden beliefs that contradict the good we say we desire.
The call today is to identify and unblock the beliefs that restrict the flow of God’s good in our lives.
Major Points of the Lesson:
1: Unblock Worthiness
“I am enough to receive God’s good.”
The first blockage is worthiness.
2: Unblock Guilt and Shame
“I am free to receive because grace has released me.”
3: Unblock Religious Conditioning
“God is not glorified by my limitation.”
4: Unblock Culture and Tradition
“I can honour where I come from without repeating its limitations.”
Quote:
“God’s good is never blocked at the Source. The flow is blocked only where we have consciously or unconsciously accepted a belief that contradicts the abundant life Jesus promised us in John 10:10.”

ASSIGNMENT:
The Belief Inventory Assignment
A 7-Day Practice to Unblock the Flow
This week, take 15 minutes each day to sit quietly, reflect honestly, and write. Each day, identify the belief that may be blocking the flow of God’s good, then immediately replace it with a renewed belief.
On the 7th day, return to church with your renewed belief system and a more open consciousness to receive the abundant life Jesus promised in John 10:10.
Day 1: Worthiness
Ask yourself:
Where in my life do I still feel I must prove that I am enough?
Then write your renewed belief:
I am worthy because…
Close with the affirmation:
I believe. I release unbelief. I unblock the flow of God’s good in me, through me, and as me.
Day 2: Guilt and Shame
Ask yourself:
What past action, mistake, or experience am I still using to punish myself?
Then write your renewed belief:
I am forgiven because…
Close with the affirmation:
I believe. I release unbelief. I unblock the flow of God’s good in me, through me, and as me.
Day 3: Religious Conditioning
Ask yourself:
What did I learn about God, money, suffering, success, or pleasure that may be blocking my abundance?
Then write your renewed belief:
God’s abundance means…
Close with the affirmation:
I believe. I release unbelief. I unblock the flow of God’s good in me, through me, and as me.
Day 4: Culture and Tradition
Ask yourself:
What family, cultural, or community belief have I accepted as truth, even though it limits my life?
Then write your renewed belief:
I honour my roots by…
Close with the affirmation:
I believe. I release unbelief. I unblock the flow of God’s good in me, through me, and as me.
Day 5: Review the Patterns
Ask yourself:
Which belief keeps showing up most strongly in my life — worthiness, guilt and shame, religious conditioning, or culture and tradition?
Then write your renewed belief:
The belief I am choosing to release is…
The new belief I am choosing to live from is…
Close with the affirmation:
I believe. I release unbelief. I unblock the flow of God’s good in me, through me, and as me.
Day 6: Declare the New Belief System
Ask yourself:
What must I now believe about God, myself, and my good in order to live the abundant life Jesus promised?
Then complete these statements:
I now believe God is…
I now believe I am…
I now believe abundance is…
I now believe my life can…
Close with the affirmation:
I believe. I release unbelief. I unblock the flow of God’s good in me, through me, and as me.
Day 7: Return Renewed
Return to church with your renewed belief system ready for growth.
Come ready to worship, pray, give thanks, and grow in the awareness of your true identity:
I am worthy. I am forgiven. God is abundant. I honour my roots by rising. I believe, and I receive the abundant life Jesus promised.
