Scripture Reading

Psalm 23 (AMP)

“The Lord is my Shepherd [to feed, to guide and to shield me], I shall not want. He lets me lie down in green pastures; He leads me beside the still and quiet waters. He refreshes and restores my soul (life); He leads me in the paths of righteousness for His name’s sake. Even though I walk through the [sunless] valley of the shadow of death, I fear no evil, for You are with me; Your rod [to protect] and Your staff [to guide], they comfort and console me. You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies. You have anointed and refreshed my head with oil; My cup overflows. Surely goodness and mercy and unfailing love shall follow me all the days of my life, And I shall dwell forever [throughout all my days] in the house and in the presence of the Lord.”

John 10:10-11;14-15 (NRSVUE)

‘ “I came that they may have life and have it abundantly. I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep.” I am the good shepherd. I know my own, and my own know me, 15 just as the Father knows me, and I know the Father. And I lay down my life for the sheep.’

Introductory Remarks:

Psalm 23 is often read in times when people need comfort, strength, and reassurance. It has carried many through grief, uncertainty, and seasons of deep need. But Psalm 23 is more than a psalm of comfort. It is also a psalm of prosperity.

Not prosperity in the narrow sense of possessions, but prosperity as a life led by God, nourished by peace, restored in soul, protected in difficulty, and filled with divine overflow. The psalm opens with a bold declaration: “The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.” This is not a denial of pressure or pain. It is the deep spiritual assurance that our Source is greater than our circumstances.

Psalm 23 reminds us that prosperity begins with a relationship. Before there is overflow, there is shepherding. Before there is an increase, there is guidance. Before there is outward abundance, there is inward restoration. As we continue this series, Jesus Is Still Calling, we are invited to trust the Shepherd’s leading and discover that, even under pressure, we can live in peace, purpose, and divine supply.

Major Points of the Lesson:

  1. Prosperity begins with the right Source

  2. When life squeezes, give. True prosperity always prospers me and everybody else.

  3. Restore your soul, and your prosperity increases

  4. Expect abundance even in adverse conditions. Prosperity does not stop in the valley.

Quote:

Psalm 23 for Today - adapted by Conroy B. Wilson

God is my Source.
I’m not empty.
I’m not abandoned.
I’m not without help.
Im not without anything!
When life moves too fast,
When things seem to be missing, absent or not enough
My reliance on God slows me down.
When my mind runs wild,
God brings me back to peace.

When I feel drained,
God restores me.
When I feel lost,
God realigns me.
When I don’t know what to do next,
God leads me in what is right.

Even in dark seasons—
grief, stress, betrayal, burnout, uncertainty—
I do not have to be afraid,
because God is with me.

I am guided.
I am covered.
I am comforted.

Right in front of pressure,
God still prepares blessing.
Right in front of doubt,
God still calls me chosen.
Right in the midst of negative thoughts,
God still pours value on my life.

I am not running on empty.
My cup is not barely getting by.
My cup overflows.
Goodness is with me.
Mercy is with me.
Love is with me.
And I live every single day
in the awesome awareness of God’s forever presence.

Assignment:

Select a version of Psalm 23—in song, poem, guided meditation, or spoken scripture—and engage with it daily for 40 days. Listen to it, read it aloud, meditate on it, and let it shape your thinking until prosperity begins to show up in an area where you desire a breakthrough. Continue with it until the spirit of Psalm 23 becomes your dominant consciousness and you begin to live from overflow instead of lack.
