Scripture Reading

Matthew 15:21-28 (NRSVUE)

‘Jesus left that place and went away to the district of Tyre and Sidon. Just then a Canaanite woman from that region came out and started shouting, “Have mercy on me, Lord, Son of David; my daughter is tormented by a demon.” But he did not answer her at all. And his disciples came and urged him, saying, “Send her away, for she keeps shouting after us.” He answered, “I was sent only to the lost sheep of the house of Israel.” But she came and knelt before him, saying, “Lord, help me.” He answered, “It is not fair to take the children’s food and throw it to the dogs.” She said, “Yes, Lord, yet even the dogs eat the crumbs that fall from their masters’ table.” Then Jesus answered her, “Woman, great is your faith! Let it be done for you as you wish.” And her daughter was healed from that moment.’

Introductory Remarks:

God’s healing promises are as relevant, powerful, and unchanging as they have always been. They worked for Jesus the Christ and the prophets/prophetesses who preceded him and succeeded him. They worked for the Cannannite Woman and her daughter, whom Jesus first ignored and whom the disciples sought to deny access. They worked for Johnnie Colemon, and so many others and they will work for you If you dare to work them!

Major Points of the Lesson:

  1. The question has always been: Who wants to live a better life? A healthier, happier, peaceful, and more prosperous life?

  2. The Universal Foundation for Better Living is a New Thought Christian ministry. Its cornerstone is spiritual healing. Healing comes as we rely on God’s promise and:

    1. Release - Every hindrance or limitation;

    2. Speak the Word Consistently - God is Life.

    3. Expect - Life to reveal its purity.

    4. Give Thanks - God’s Life is My Life, NOW!

ASSIGNMENT:

This week, saturate your mind and heart with God’s healing promise to you. Choose a scripture, a quote, a song, a poem or whatever speaks to you and affirms God’s promise to you for healing. This is personal. Ask God for your promise.
